Troop 78 met at the cabin EARLY Saturday morning October 14 for an alpine departure to West Virginia and a section of the Appalachian Trail we had not yet done.

We had 48 troop 78 scouts and scouters out for an adventurous weekend.

We intended to hike a section south of Harpers Ferry, WV.  Our crews for Philmont summer 2018 planned a long hike from Virginia Route 7 to AT Blackburn Center and out Sunday morning to West Virginia Route 9, total 14 miles.  Good training for Philmont!

The short hikers planned to hike from West Virginia Route 9 to the Blackburn Center and then back out to Route 9 Sunday morning total 11 miles.

In actuality both groups encountered lots of ups and downs and rocky wet leaf covered trail, as all those familiar with the AT will know all too well.

We had wonderful weather, overcast with intermittent sun, temps in the 60s, perfect for hiking.

A ground fog caused condensation and the trees dripped so much it seemed like rain.  So even though it was clear and the stars were out, it "rained" all night and everything was soaked (and heavier) for the hike out Sunday.
